The exciting point for players at this level is the fact that they are one step away from entering or returning to the NHL. For most players, the fact that playing in the NHL is almost tangible is enough to motivate them night in and night out.

The AHL is truly a developmental league. The majority of the players who will be playing in this league are all younger players normally between the ages of 20 - 26. Most of these players will have been drafted or signed by NHL clubs. This league's talent level and intensity of play is second to none. These players are hungry to reach the next level and are willing to do whatever it takes to do so.

The AHL gives players the chance to work toward their goal, which for most is the chance to play in the NHL full time. For the players who finish their careers in the AHL, it allows them the chance to make an excellent living while playing hockey at an extremely competitive level.
