It's a good question isn't it? Some of us may go our whole career without one while others couldn't imagine not having one. Having an agent is a personal decision and a decision that you as player will have to make. Like anything in life, when using a service, you will be charged for it. Having an agent will cost you a percentage of your contract and what you as a player have to decide is whether or not that investment is worth it.
What a good agent will do is promote your services with your best interests in mind. They can offer guidance and support and can take care of the business side of hockey that will become prevalent when you decide to move from being an amateur to that of a professional. Some players have no problem dealing with contracts and negotiations while others simply want to show up and play. It is for this reason that we can not give you an age or a circumstance that will answer this question for you. A quality agent will offer a player experience and integrity. They will work hand in hand with you the person and player, keeping your goals and aspirations at the top of their list. For more information, read about finding an agent or check out our recommended agents list, and if you have any further questions, we encourage you to Ask the Vet. We look forward to hearing from you and to offering some guidance.
