The Québec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) is one of three major junior leagues that comprise the Canadian Hockey League (CHL). The QMJHL is made up of 16 teams from cities across Québec, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia. It is considered to be one of the major breeding grounds for hockey talent and is heavily recruited by the NHL and other professional leagues. Famous alumni include: Mario Lemieux, Martin Brodeur, Felix Potvin, and the list goes on. At the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, 20 players were selected from the QMJHL.
The QMJHL, as a member of the CHL, has rigorously developed initiatives concerning player education. Players are encouraged to continue their education beyond the secondary school level and many do so while playing in the league. |
