Junior 'A' hockey in Canada is comprised of the ten leagues of the Canadian Junior 'A' Hockey League (CJAHL). Both the OPJHL and the SIJHL have been added to the national body for the 2002-03 season. Annually, these leagues and their teams play for the coveted Royal Bank Cup and the prestige of being National Champions.
Junior 'A' in Canada represents some of the best junior hockey played in the world. Often competing with the Major Junior leagues for talent, the Junior 'A' leagues have become the major breeding ground for student athletes. NCAA Div. I scholarships are the aspirations of many of the players who choose this root. Hobey Baker Award winner Paul Kariya and Hobey Baker Award finalist Todd White both played Junior 'A' before accepting Div. I scholarships and then moving on to the NHL. |
